Inception of the hotel and casino
The original building on the premises was a Hard Rock café that began its operations in September 1990. A little less than a year later, the following June, a proposal came up about building a hotel-casino next to the restaurant. A couple of years later in September 1993, Hard Rock announced its partnership with Harvey’s Hotel & Casino and began construction of the Hard Rock hotel-casino. The hotel finally opened its doors in March 1995 as a 11-story hotel with 339 rooms, a 28,000 sqft casino and a 1,200-seat concert hotel. What stood out about the place was the structure of a huge 82-foot tall guitar on the outside of the resort.
 

In 2010, there were many additions to The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas including two new hotel towers, various bars and restaurants, a spa and health club, high fashion shopping outlets and a nightclub. The swimming pool capacity was also tripled. Today, the hotel’s restaurants boast of a range of cuisines. Following a buyout by Virgin Hotels in March 2018, the premises will close for renovation in February 2020 for close to eight months. As part of this plan, the original Hard Café was demolished and the guitar was moved to the Neon Museum in November 2019.
