Las Vegas is mainly known for bustling casino floors, world-renowned chefs, and show-stopping performances. But it also offers something unexpected.

Nestled between California, Utah, and Arizona, Vegas is a central starting point for various regional attractions such as Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Grand Canyon, and sunny California beaches.

Some of my clients are surprised to learn there are five national parks within a two to five-hour drive from Vegas.

Death Valley, California, classified as the largest Dark Sky National Park, offers some of the best stargazing in the country just a couple hours from the bright lights of The Strip. Not just sand and stars, the park's diverse landscape showcases incredible scenery to explore during the daylight hours.

Joshua Tree National Park, only three hours southwest of Vegas, features a variety of plants and animals, hiking and climbing, and the opportunity for endless stargazing.

Just over the Utah border, Zion National Park features stunning scenery and hiking trails for every level of adventurer. Bryce Canyon is only another hour up the road, showcasing red rock hoodoos and magical spire formations viewed along its scenic drives and various hiking trails.

The iconic Grand Canyon's south rim is just over four hours east of Las Vegas in Arizona, while its north rim is a two-hour adventure away.

The natural beauty around Vegas extends beyond national parks, with incredible scenery throughout the region.

Venture east into Arizona, and Route 66 buffs can travel a piece of history on the highway's best-preserved stretch. The 300-mile stretch takes you back in time with wayside villages and stunning high-desert beauty.

With beauty described as otherworldly, Antelope Canyon is three hours from the Grand Canyon and approximately five hours from Vegas. Its slot canyon features six separate sections where visitors enter a 'monumental natural sculpture.'

Kanarra Falls, Utah's unmissable slot canyon hike, is only fifty minutes from Zion National Park. The trek takes you through two narrow slot canyons with two beautiful waterfalls.

Utah's quieter destinations include Snow Canyon State Park, Red Hills Desert Garden, Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, and Dead Horse Point State Park.

A day trip from Vegas can take you to California's Alabama Hills. Here, you can drive down Movie Road and recognize scenes from several movies shot along the scenic road, including Marvel's Iron Man. Pack your hiking shoes to get out and stretch your legs along many hiking trails, including the one-mile trek to Mobius Arch.

For urban travelers, there are several close destinations within a day's drive or a short flight. You can relax with a desert getaway to Palm Springs or explore the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Reno.
